Changelog8 updates

Everything that changed on PlayCSOnline, newest first. Each entry is written when the change is live on the servers.

New lobby, skin shop beta and an in-game leaderboard

The lobby was rebuilt in the look of the original Counter-Strike 1.6 menus: server list, quick join, keyboard shortcuts 1-9 and a segmented loading bar, in 21 languages. A skin shop opened as a closed beta with e-mail accounts, credits, 180 weapon and player skins that every player on the server can see, and 3D previews. The lobby now has a leaderboard fed by live kill data, and the new leaderboard page and server status page show the same numbers on the web.

Spectator ghosting closed on the Counter-Strike servers

Dead players could free-fly the map and call out positions. Both CS 1.6 servers now lock the spectator camera to teammates and free spectating is off, so rounds are decided by what you see in your own crosshair.

Automatic team assignment no longer re-opens the team menu

A timing bug fired the join before the player had spawned, so the team menu popped up again after every map change. The assignment now happens server-side and the menu stays away.

Mobile fixes: clear cache, touch layout, iOS audio

A Clear cache button removes stale game files, the touch controls stopped fighting the page scroll, and iOS Safari keeps sound and fullscreen after a pause. Portrait phones get a rotate hint instead of a broken layout.

Faster first load and map voting fixed on GunGame

The game archive is now cached at the edge, downloads resume after a dropped connection and the files persist in the browser between visits, so returning players skip the long loading bar. Map voting on the GunGame server, which had silently never started, works again.

Firefox can connect again

A regression in the DTLS library behind the WebRTC transport blocked Firefox from completing the handshake. All three servers run the fixed version.

Country flags on the scoreboard and a sniper crosshair fix

The TAB scoreboard shows each player's country flag. Dying while zoomed with the SG550 or G3SG1 used to leave the next life without a crosshair; the field of view is now reset on respawn.

The mysterious server restarts are solved

After weeks of investigation the periodic restarts were traced to a model slot leak inside the engine: every map change consumed slots until the server ran out and crashed. The engine now runs with the upstream fix backported, and the servers have stayed up since.
